This
layout measures 4' 10" x 1'. I used to think it is small; but now
people build successful 4mm scale layouts in box files and shoeboxes!
The setting is southwest London in the popular steam/diesel transition
period. The front part of the layout represents a section of a Southern
Region freight yard serving the type of ‘sundries’ warehouse which
has long since disappeared from the railway scene. Operation here is
essentially shunting, but is complicated enough to keep the operators
awake.
The unconnected single line at the back is one of the Western Region’s
west London branches [which one I am not sure]. The occasional railcar
can be seen calling at the rather gloomy Old Castle Lane station.
