It Is with great sadness that I announce the passing over the past weekend of the death of Roy Jackson.
Roy has been a good friend of our society and many of its members for many years, his passing will no doubt come as a great shock. I feel sure that all our members will join me in passing on our condolences to his family.
He will no doubt be felt as a great loss to the model railway world and will he will be sorely missed by many who have known him and been inspired by him over the years

Clubrooms at Retford Station
The signatories of our lease with LNER met with representatives of the franchise holder this morning (Monday 16th) at Retford station.
We were informed that LNER wished to use our present club rooms for commercial purposes i.e. a potential micro brewery and station pub. It was made plain that LNER value our presence on the station and wish our tenancy to continue. We will retain the southern modelling rooms and have been offered the station meeting room as our main meeting room/club room. This is much smaller than our present club room but has a sink and catering facilities plus a private toilet. LNER are also exploring the possibility of giving the Society additional unused rooms on the station itself for extra storage.
Ideally, this matter would have been discussed by the committee before being made public but as we have been delivered a fait accompli, I thought it prudent to let as many members of the society know the present situation by email ASAP.
We can use the new meeting/club room immediately and transfer our various wall plaques, etc. onto the walls of the new room at our convenience. We do not have a date for the start of the dry rot eradication but I suspect it will be in the coming weeks. Although we are losing our treasured club rooms, we still have a presence on the station and can begin to hold regular monthly club nights from next week in the new room. There will be some work we need to do in the meantime such as put blinds on the windows, install the projector and put up the screen but at least we have a bright, modern room to go to, make tea and coffee and have somewhere to meet and read railway magazines!
There is still the little matter of planning permission, parking and many other niggles to overcome before the commercial idea can come to reality and I know we all have our own ideas on just how likely it is that this proposal will happen. It isn’t over until the fat lady signs!
(Additional) As a result of poor take up and lack of a suitable Bar-B-Q for use at Stockholes Railway, our visit this Wednesday has been cancelled. My apologies for the late announcement but unfortunately, I am leaving for the US on Wednesday and will not be back until the first week in August and so have not had the time to let the membership know beforehand of the cancellation.
My apologies to any member whose does not receive this email for whatever reason and would be grateful if those of you who do receive it can past the news along to other members.

We have been informed that the contract for remedial work at the station has finally been awarded. That is all that is known at present.
The visit to Roy Jackson and his Retford layout will take place on Saturday 23 June 2018 from 14.00 – 16.00 in the afternoon. Roy is holding a running day and Geoff Kent’s Award winning EM gauge layout ‘Black Lion Crossing’ will also be on display.
That’s all for now.
