The Prototype:
The North
Eastern Railway built Goathland Station in July 1865, on the new
deviation route from Grosmont Tunnel to Goathland Summit to bypass the
notorious horse drawn beckhole incline.
Thus enabling steam engines to work through from Whitby to
Pickering.
The
Model:
We attempt to show the station as it appeared in B.R. days, 1950 to
closure in May 1965 just short of its centenary. The stock on show is
typical of this era and endeavours to convey a fairly accurate image of
the Locos and stock at this time.
The
Locos are mainly modified R.T.R. from various sources as is rolling
stock, some of which are kits. Much enjoyment has been derived
from both researching and building the model, we hope you enjoy the
result of our efforts. As
many of you know, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway now operates the
station.
The
operators will be happy to answer any queries to the best of their
