The Club Rooms
The Society is in the very fortunate position to occupy two separate sets of rooms which are part of the Retford East Coast Mainline Station Building on Platform 1.
We have consistently been the custodians of rooms on the station since moving there during August 1998, at which time we began a period of extensive refurbishment, restoring them to something similar to their former glory.
In the past the Society had its main clubrooms in the former “Buffet and 1st Class Dining Room” on platform 1 of the station, and in 2010, as part of the ‘Adopt-a-Station’ scheme, the B(NN)RS in association with East Coast railways, has expanded its operations into additional rooms at the southern end of platform 1 of Retford railway station.
However due to a large amount of very necessary repair work being carried out to the fabric of the existing “Main Clubrooms” and to that of the former “Dining Room managers” house, the Club were offered alternative use of what in the past were the former GNR/LNER Telegraph rooms, and have now occupied these since midway through 2018.
The developments during 2018 have been somewhat of an “upheaval” for the Society, however, our new rooms are clean, warm and still very conveniently positioned.
Our clubrooms form a base for the Society and all of its activities.
The new Clubrooms are now taking shape, thankfully normality is beginning to resume once again.
These images were taken just prior to our May 2010 Open Day and show the interior and exterior of our ‘new’ southern rooms. These rooms are used throughout the year for working on the various club layouts and available to view on one of our open days in the year.
