Photograph Archive

The Society is currently engaged in creating a photographic archive of the railways in and around Retford and Worksop in North Nottinghamshire.  So far we have accumulated over 1600 pictures covering the steam, diesel and electric eras.  We are always looking out for further photographs to enhance our collection; if you have any information about our area, please come along to our clubrooms any Wednesday evening or contact us via email.  A few images from our collection are illustrated below.  If you are searching for information on the railways in North Nottinghamshire, please contact us, we may be able to assist.

A full list of all of the images contained in the archive is available by clicking this DATABASE link. Please note that this is quite a large file and depending the speed of your connection, may take some time to download.

We recently received a copy of newspaper report which appeared in the The Times on August 25th 1873 about a fatal railway accident at Retford.  Any additional information about this accident would be much appreciated.  We also have a copy of the official report on the 1923 railway accident just north of Retford station.  Produced for the Ministry of Transport by Colonel J W Pringle, the document explains the circumstances of the accident and includes eye witness reports and recommendations.  We have added a few pictures to show extent of the damage to the trains and the surrounding infrastructure.
